Port Richmond Community Group to meet

PRCG will meet Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m., at Our Lady Help of Christians’ church hall basement, on Allegheny Avenue at Gaul Street. Guests will include John Taylor, Mark Squilla, the Aramingo Business Association and the Kintock Group. Gardening workshop at Greensgrow

On Saturday, June 29, from noon to 2 p.m., learn how to make a vertical garden using pallets. The a-frame method allows you to use limited growing space efficiently.

Zumba at Bridesburg Rec.

Enjoy a Zumba workout class for adults at the Bridesburg Rec., 4625 Richmond St., on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The cost is $4 per class in an air-conditioned room. ••

Kids summer programs at Bridesburg Rec.

Day camp/extended camp for boys and girls, kindergarten through 6th grade (younger than 12), will be offered from Monday, July 22 to Friday, August 16, Monday through Friday.

Music marathon at St. Jude’s

A charitable live music marathon will be held to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 151 W. Lehigh Ave., on Sunday, June 30, from 12 noon to 12 midnight. For information, contact Victor at 215–303–1279. ••

Fishtown Windowbox Contest

The 2013 Eva Rubin Memorial Window Box and Planter Contest is taking place.

Sponsored by the Fishtown Neighbors Association’s Beautification Committee, the Window Box and Planter Contest rewards Fishtown residents for their contributions to a greener city and gives them a chance to compete for prizes.

Free science class in Fishtown

GlaxoSmithKline is offering students in grades 2 through 6 from Fishtown a chance to learn about science this summer.

The class in chemistry will be offered Tuesday and Thursday, July 2 and 3, at the Fishtown branch of the Philadelphia Free Library, 1217 E. Montgomery Ave. This is a free program, and spots are still available.

Family events at Penn Treaty Park

The Friends of Penn Treaty Park are hosting a movie night on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. and will show “The Amazing Spider Man.” On Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, The Walking Fish Theatre will host the Family Theatre Series at 7 p.m., at Penn Treaty Park. ••

Bridesburg United Methodist concert

Bridesburg United Methodist Church, 2717 Kirkbride St. (between Richmond and Thompson streets) will host a summer concert and dinner on Saturday, July 20 from 6:30 p.m. until closing. SugarHouse Summer Food Truck Series

The SugarHouse Casino and Philadelphia Mobile Food Association have teamed up again this year for the continuation of their Summer Food Truck Series.

There will be eight food trucks and two sweets trucks parked in the SugarHouse parking lot from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. every third Thursday of the month through September.

Peg McCook Sports Tournament

The Margaret “Peg” McCook sports tournament will be held July 19, 20, and 21 at Cione Playground (Lehigh and Aramingo avenues) and Cohox Playground (Cedar and Cambria streets). Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and scholarships for students.

Events, with registration costs, include men’s and women’s softball, basketball and soccer ($125 each), youth soccer ($100), youth basketball ($75), a 5K run on July 20 ($30), and horseshoes ($25 per thrower). Fall hockey at Cione Playground

Cione Playground is now taking registration for the fall hockey leagues for players ages 9 through 17. A $10 registration fee includes a shirt, referee and trophy fees. Both roller and foot hockey are available.

Players are responsible for their own equipment and helmet. Registration continues until August 27 and league play will begin the week of September 9. There is also an adult division. Hancock Rec. summer day camp

Hancock Recreation Center is currently accepting applications for its Summer Day Camp 2013, for ages 5 to 12. Camp will begin Monday, July 1 through August 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Games, arts and crafts, weekly trips, swimming and much more will be available. Registration fee is $25, and the full six-week camp is $150. Camp must be paid in full prior to start. Nativity B.V.M.’s Class of ’63 Reunion

North Catholic High reunion

The second annual North Catholic “Norphans Day” reunion will be held at Keenan’s Irish Pub in North Wildwood, N.J. on Saturday, July 27, from 3 to 7 p.m. Admission is $25 ($30 at the door) and includes bottled beer, food and live entertainment featuring Masquerade.

All proceeds benefit the Philadelphia Police Survivors Fund and the Ed White, NC Class of ’55 Scholarship Fund. Tickets can be purchased at Mercer Café, 2619 E.
