Fishtown Beer Runners Fundraiser for Hackett Elementary

The Fishtown Beer Runners are holding a fundraiser for Hackett Elementary School at Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cedar Point will donate $1 for every beer sold during the event to the Friends of Hackett parents’ group. Proceeds will go towards school supplies for the school. Location: Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen, 2370 E. Norris St. ••

Fishtown Rec. has spots for tots

The Fishtown Recreation Center will be registering children for its preschool program on Wednesday, Aug.21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Openings are available for the four-year-olds class. Children should be four by Sept. 1. Classes are held on Tues., Wed., and Thurs., from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

All children must be able to attend to their own bathroom needs. To register, please bring your child’s birth certificate, immunization record and a $20 non-refundable registration fee. Frank Glavin Playground notices

Frank Glavin Playground, 2600 Westmoreland St., is offering instruction to children ages 3 and up in tap, jazz and ballet. A teacher is needed to instruct the students, order costumes and plan the year-end dance recital.

Heitzman Rec. Center basketball league

Heitzman Rec., 2136 Castor Ave., will be holding a men’s basketball league on Saturday afternoons from September through December. All games will be played between noon and 5 p.m. at the Heitzman Recreation Center. The cost is $275 per team plus an $80 refundable forfeit fee. The referee fee is $40 per game. Each team may have no more then 10 players.

Fee must be paid with a check or money order made out to Heitzman Advisory Council. Season starts on Saturday, Sept. 14. More information or questions should be directed to the League Commissioner, Steve Schmidt, at 215–685–1244. ••

Liberti church Teen Arts Camp

Teenagers from the River Wards have created works of art throughout the month of July at liberti church east’s arts camp, and will exhibit their work in the showcase, “Character Effect,” which will be on display through August in the Artspace Liberti gallery space, at 2424 E. York St. Join liberti church at the gallery before and after Sunday services through August, from 10 a.m. to noon. ••

Konrad Square flea market

The Friends of Konrad Square will host a flea market on Aug. 24, at Konrad Square, Tulip and Dauphin streets, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in renting a space should call Vicky at 215–426–9654. ••

Bridesburg Rec. flea market

Bridesburg Rec., 4601 Richmond St., will have a flea market on Sat., Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spaces are $15, bring your own table. Call Carol for questions at 267–738–5414. ••

Cione fall programs

Cione Playground, at Lehigh and Aramingo avenues, will host several programs: after school program, ages 5 to 12, Monday through Friday; tumbling and gymnastics, ages 4 and up, Monday through Wednesdays; dance, ages 3 to 13, Thursday through Saturday.

Also, arts and crafts, ages 5 to 14, Saturdays; Tot Rec., ages 3 ½ to 5, Tuesday through Thursday; Peewee Soccer, ages 4 to 8, Saturdays; bicycle polo, adults, Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.; football, 6th to 8th grade. Call Cione at 215–685–9880. ••

LSH garden party

Lutheran Settlement House’s Community Education Program’s two year anniversary party will be held on Thursday, Aug.15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the LSH garden and senior center.

The party is in celebration of two successful years of the volunteer tutoring project. Please join LSH, 1340 Frankford Ave., in appreciation of all its hard-working tutors.

Family Theatre Series at Penn Treaty Park

B. Someday Productions, which calls The Walking Fish Theatre home, is proud to announce an outdoor performance of The Family Theatre Series on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m., at Penn Treaty Park.

SugarHouse Summer Food Truck Series

The SugarHouse Casino and Philadelphia Mobile Food Association have teamed up again this year for the continuation of their Summer Food Truck Series.

Dance showcase and health fair in Bridesburg

Join Health Partners for its fourth annual “Crazy Praise Dance Showcase” and health fair on Aug. 17. The Crazy Praise Dance Showcase will feature Grammy Award-winning artists Mary Mary, some of Philadelphia’s most talented praise dancers and an exciting announcement from Health Partners.

The Health Fair will include complimentary health screenings and information on Health Partners’ Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Plus, there will be family fun activities like face painting, games, a children’s fun zone, giveaways and a special appearance by the Health Partners mascot, Ms. Roo the Kangaroo.

The health fair will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., doors open for the showcase at 5 p.m. and the showcase begins at 6 p.m. The event will take place at The Baptist Worship Center, 4790 James St. ••

Help out local Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts at Glavin Playground are asking the community to save aluminum cans and other recyclable metals starting now through Saturday, August 17. Take your cans to Sullivan Recycling, 3361 Edgemont St., and mention that your recyclables are for the Girl Scout fundraiser at Glavin Playgound.

On Saturday, August 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the Girl Scouts will be available at Sullivan Recycling to accept items. A percentage of all the funds raised will be earmarked to give to the Ronald McDonald House at St. Christopher’s Hospital, and to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

To request aluminum and metal pick-up at stores, bars, etc., leave a message at 215–739–6456. The Girl Scouts will also be selling $1 candy bars door-to-door every Tuesday evening in August between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ••
