BHS meeting tonight

The next meeting of the Bridesburg Historical Society will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Marian Hall on the northwest corner of Buckius and Edgemont Streets. The presentation will be “The Farms of Bridesburg Borough — 1850.” Admission is free, and refreshments will be served. ••

PennDOT’s Bridesburg meeting

PennDOT will host an open house regarding I-95 improvements that will affect the neighborhood. This meeting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club, 2901 Bridge St. ••

Bus service for Senior Expo

Rep. John Taylor will have bus service available for his Senior Expo on Friday, Oct. 11, which will be held at the Cohocksink Recreation Center, Cedar and Cambria Streets, 10 a.m. to noon.

The bus service will begin at the Juniata Senior Center, L and Sedgely streets, at 9:30 a.m.; Our Ladies of Port Richmond, E. Allegheny Avenue and E. Thompson Street, at 9:50 a.m.; and St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2608 E. Cumberland St., at 10 a.m. The bus will return everyone at 11:30 a.m. ••

October’s Second Saturday

October’s Second Saturday in Port Richmond will feature a pumpkin art contest and showcase. Join in on the fun on Oct. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., on the 3100 block of Richmond St., between Allegheny Avenue and Clearfield St.

For children, bring a painted pumpkin to be showcased on Richmond Street the day of the event. For adults, bring your creatively carved pumpkin to be judged in our ‘Best Pumpkin on Richmond St.’ contest.

NKCDC fall cleanup

Help your local civic associations and NKCDC tidy up the neighborhood Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Neighborhood Fall Cleanup. There will be a free BBQ afterwards for all volunteers.

St. Anne’s ‘Coach Bingo’

The last St. Anne’s Coach Bingo, on Sept. 7, was a great success. The bag for the last game retailed at $899. For $30 admission, enjoy snacks, coffee and cake while you play bingo for Coach bags.

Great Fishtown Spelling Bee

The 12th annual Great Fishtown Spelling Bee is set for Friday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m., at Shissler Rec. Center. The competition is open to students from grades 2–8.

As always, the competition is free and open to any student from any school in Philadelphia. ••

Girl Scouts haunted house

The Girl Scouts and Advisory Council invite you to walk through their “Haunted House” at Frank Glavin Playground, 2600 Westmoreland St.
