Another sinkhole in NoLibs
Neighbors on the 900 block of N. Randolph Street awoke to no water service on the morning of Dec. 16.
The water was instead shooting out of another sinkhole, which is becoming a somewhat common appearance in the Northern Liberties neighborhood.
6ABC has reported three sinkholes in the Northern Liberties section of the city, which has been plaguing the area since the end of May.
Earlier this month, a sinkhole partially swallowed a pickup truck.
Neighbors have been reporting the issue to the water department, whose inspection team arrived to assess the damages the afternoon of the incident. A crew from the water department arrived on the scene just after 6 p.m. ••
Movie theatre, bar-restaurant planned for NoLibs
TLA Video is rumored to be toying with the idea of opening a new type of venue in Northern Liberties, which will allow customers to grab a drink, enjoy a meal, and see a movie all at once.
According to Michael Klein of philly.com., a warehouse at 631 N. Sixth St., owned by TLA, will house the proposed business. Klein said the company recently applied for a liquor license for the location.
The project’s details are not yet set in stone. Much that still has to be done requires approval from the surrounding community, a Philadelphia Business Journal article said. ••
Changes in mattress, box spring disposal in NoLibs
The Streets Department has announced changes in sanitation regulations regarding how mattresses and box springs are placed out for curbside trash collection.
The changes will affect residents and small businesses that have their garbage collected by City Sanitation services.
Effective beginning earlier this month, acting streets commissioner David J. Perri stated that residents will be required to bag and seal mattresses and box springs in mattress covers in order to be collected.
The reason behind these changes is to protect against the spread of bed bugs.
Mattress bags can be purchased at many retail and home improvement stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Kmart, as well as online.

New manufacturing facility for East Kensington
A metal fabricator company is constructing a new manufacturing facility along American Street in East Kensington, which will result in the creation of 15 new jobs.
According to a report from the Philadelphia Business Journal, Veyko Inc. is relocatingfrom its 216 Fairmont Ave. location and constructing a $2.1 million, 11,550-square-foot building on what is now a vacant lot that sits in a federally designated “Empowerment Zone.” The company is receiving $250,000 in an Empowerment Zone grant and $933,000 in financing from the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp.
Businesses that move into these zones can expect to receive certain tax incentives.
Veyko, Inc offers design, design detailing, and metal fabrication and installation services to architects, designers, general contractors and homeowners, according to its website. ••
