Pierogi Week

Pierogi Week is from Sunday, Feb. 23, to Sunday, March 2, in the “Capitol of Polish Pierogies.” Notable establishments that serve pierogies include Green Rock Tavern on E. Lehigh Avenue, Donna’s Bar on Allegheny Avenue, Szrenka’s on Richmond Street and New Wave Bar on Allegheny Avenue. Pierogies for take out are available at Port Deli on Thompson and Clearfield Streets and Polish Deli on Allegheny Avenue. ••

Richmond library events

Mommy and Me Storytime will take place Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m.

Making Mosaics will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. This program is a part of “One Book, One Philadelphia.” Participants will be creating their own mosaics from tile, pebbles and glass pieces while learning the history of this ancient art form.

Free tax preparation

Concilio will host free tax preparation for families with incomes of less than $52,000 on Wednesday, Feb. 26, in collaboration with the Ceiba Coalition.

The Housing Program will also help eligible people with property tax and rent rebates, property tax relief, energy assistance and more. To register for an appointment, call 215–627–3100.

South Kensington Community Partners and Finanta will also sponsor free tax preparation on Friday, Feb. 28, at 1301 N. 2nd St. Call 215–427–3463 to make an appointment. ••

New playground meeting

Join the Friends of Penn Treaty Park and the Parks of Recreation Department staff at Shissler Recreation Center on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:15 p.m. to get a look at the new playground that will take shape in the coming months. For more information, visit penntreatypark.org. ••

Fishtown beautification

PRCG meeting

The Port Richmond Community Group will have its monthly meeting at Our Lady Help of Christians Church hall basement on Allegheny Avenue and Gaul Street on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. Residents will hear presentations and be able to vote on a proposed restaurant/bar at 2658 E. TeamFit grand opening

Greensgrow events

A tomato grafting workshop will be held on Saturday, March 8 from 12 to 2 p.m. Farmer Nathan Hassler-Brooks will demonstrate how to graft onto a blight resistant root stock and explain why and how grafting works. Events at Atonement Church

Family game night is Saturday, March 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. Bring a game or play one of the provided games. Tacos, mulled wine and snacks will be provided.

A children’s service will be held on Sunday, March 2, at 11 a.m. with activities for kids.

A bible chat, with soup, will be held every Wednesday during Lent starting March 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Pancakes and bacon will be served on Fat Tuesday, March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Car seat inspection station

Find out if your child’s car seat is installed correctly at the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children/Safe Kids Coalition free monthly inspection. FNA zoning meeting

This meeting will take place at the Fishtown Recreation Center at 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. Residents will be able to vote on a proposal for a development involving 15 condominium units and a ground-floor restaurant in an existing building at 1101 Frankford Ave. Please bring proof of residence or business ownership in the form of a photo ID and a lease, utility bill, or recent piece of mail addressed to your home or business. ••

Chemical site meeting

The NKCDC is coordinating a public meeting regarding the former Pathan Chemical Site located at 427–447 Moyer St. The site has been found to contain concentrations of lead in soil and 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2-dichloropropane, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene in groundwater.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Fishtown Recreation Center at 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Relevant documents regarding the remediation of this property are available for public review at the Fishtown Community Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, 1217 E. Montgomery Ave. ••

Tot Program Registration

Frank Glavin Playground, located at Almond and Westmoreland Streets, will be holding registration for their Tot Recreation program on Thursday, Mar. 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a $20 non-refundable fee. Children must be 3 years old by Dec. 31, 2014 to be eligible for the 3-year-old class, and 4 years old by Dec. 31, 2014 to be eligible for the 4-year-old class. Bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate. All children must be able to handle their own bathroom needs; no pull-ups. For information, call 215–685–9898. ••

Music from the Middle East

Fishtown Community Library, 1217 E. Montgomery Ave., will host All Around This World: Music From the Middle East on Friday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. Small children and their caregivers will explore rhythms and melodies from the Middle East and other cultures in a fun-filled and participatory way. Cione Playground fundraisers

First Friday
