Riverfront North Partnership announced earlier this month the second round of recipients for its Bridesburg Impact Grants initiative.
Individuals and projects that received funding include
Stephen Syzbowski, who will design a public art project in Bridesburg. Funding will be used to kick the process off and complete its mission statement; engage the neighborhood and University of the Arts students for design input.
Boy Scouts Troop 120, with funds supporting the scouts’ initiatives that promote badge
achievement with community benefit.
Anthony Valentino, who will offer a kid’s fitness and boot camp outdoors using social distancing. Funding will be used for supplies and to perform outreach.
Bridesburg Rec/Bri Tri Ride and Stride, which will be altered due to city restrictions.
Bridesburg Father’s Club (Cougars), which will use funding to renovate The “Shack” and add a mural and community garden.
Jean O’Neal, who will offer a basic workshop on composting for urban gardeners.
Launched in January, the program started accepting applications in March, with its first round of grants being awarded in April.
Riverfront North awards $500 grants to creative and impactful projects within the 19137 ZIP code. Up to 30 grants will be distributed.
“We’ve had some really great applications since we launched BIG in March, but still have funding available and want to support some more great programs in Bridesburg. All applications and inquiries are welcome,” said Gina Craigo, community engagement manager at Riverfront North Partnership.
Categories for potential projects should fall under outdoor- or nature-based, intergenerational or community-building activities, and must be implemented within three months of the grant being awarded.
Ideas addressing issues related to the COVID-19 crisis are welcome.
The BIG program is made possible by Riverfront North Partnership and the Bridesburg Community Advisory Committee, with funding from the William Penn Foundation in conjunction with the development of the 10-acre riverfront park in Bridesburg at Orthodox Street and Delaware Avenue.
The final deadline to apply for this cycle of 30 grants is Saturday, Aug. 1.
