Ukrainian festival on Sunday
The Ukrainian Folk Festival will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Ukrainian American Sport Center — Tryzub, County Line and Lower State roads, Horsham. There will be art, crafts, live music, dance, food, drinks, vendors and live reenactments. Admission is $15 ($5 donated to the relief of war victims in Ukraine). Kids under 15 are free. Polish festival in September
The 56th Annual Polish American Festival at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, located at 654 Ferry Road in Doylestown, takes place during Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3, Sunday, Sept. 4 and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, from noon to 8 p.m. each day.
The Polish American Festival features carnival rides, live music and stage shows and ongoing entertainment on the main stage and in the Polish Village highlighting Polish traditions and customs, Polish folk dance groups, along with a variety of Polish and American food and refreshments.
The $12 admission includes all events and carnival rides. The festival will continue Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11, from noon to 8 p.m.

Buy Vietnam war memorial paver
The deadline is Sept. 5 to order a 12-by-12-inch granite paver to be completed by Veterans Day at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Front and Spruce streets.
The $400 donation made payable to (PVVM) Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial is used to maintain the site, which honors the 648 Philadelphians who died during the Vietnam War. Appropriate personalization that honors any veteran’s service includes four lines of

Meanwhile, a National POW-MIA Recognition Day observance will take place on Friday, Sept. 16, at noon at the PVVM.
The annual name reading is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, at noon. Volunteers are needed to read one of (or part of) the 34 panels that honor the 648 Philadelphians killed in the Vietnam War.

Isaacson on commission
State Rep. Mary Isaacson was appointed to become a new member of Pennsylvania’s Basic Education Funding Commission.
The commission was established within the Public School Code, and is reestablished with members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly every five years.
Members of the commission evaluate the distribution of basic education subsidies and the fair funding formula, used to provide public school funding, to ensure that it provides adequate public education, as enshrined in Pennsylvania’s constitution.
The commission will also be charged to see if cost-saving measures can be achieved, and to rely on experts at public hearings to determine the best fiscal route for schools to take.
“So much has changed economically across Pennsylvania since the Basic Education Funding Commission was convened in 2015 and it is our students who are quite literally paying the price due to the ZIP code they live in,” Isaacson said. “I am excited to serve on this commission to not only make the fair funding formula more equitable, but to fight to ensure that all of our education funding in Pennsylvania is actually passing through that formula. It is past time that our legislature stops short-changing our kids.”
The commission will issue its first report in November 2023.

Music fest finale
The Pennypack Music Festival will wrap up on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road, with a performance by Starman [tribute to David Bowie]. Admission is free.
