The St. Hubert Alumnae Association is holding its first 5K Run – 1 Mile Family Walk on Saturday, Sept. 24, in Pennypack Park.

Denise Krenski, class of 1991, is the race chairwoman, with classmate Kristen Lepkowski, a longtime field hockey and lacrosse coach at the school, serving as co-chair.

The run and walk will start and finish in the “Little City” portion of the park, on Rhawn Street near Holmehurst Avenue. Details are on the event’s Facebook page, and registration is open now.

Same-day registration will be open starting at 7:30 a.m. The run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 9. There is plenty of off-street parking.

Krenski describes the course as flat and near the creek.

“It’s so pleasant,” she said.

The cost is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event, with T-shirts available to early registrants. Proceeds will go to wellness programs for students, according to Krenski, adding that there are multiple St. Hubert grads who are triathletes and marathoners.

Trinity Health/Nazareth Hospital is the event’s Platinum Sponsor.

Pretzel City Sports will be the official timer, with race results available at www.pretzelcitysports.com.

Medals will be given to the top three males and females in the following age groups: 14-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.

The walk is strictly for fun.

“You can do the 1-mile walk slow and steady,” Krenski said.

The day will include a DJ, St. Hubert’s national champion cheerleaders and student volunteers. School president Lizanne Pando will be in attendance, and city election commission chairwoman Lisa Deeley (class of ‘84) will sing the national anthem.

Krenski is calling on students and alumnae of the school to participate, along with their daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, moms, dads and all friends of St. Hubert, to promote fitness and to help the school.

“We want this to be an all-inclusive event,” she said.
