Franklin Towne Charter High School last week welcomed Eric Cushing, executive director of the Philadelphia Police Foundation, and Marissa Fitzgerald, FTCHS board member and wife of fallen Temple University Police Sgt. Christopher Fitzgerald.
Cushing and Fitzgerald were part of an informational assembly regarding the Market Street Run for Blue. They met with 20 student volunteers who will be working the event along with members of student government, mentor council and the cross country team.
Student volunteers will be working the water stations sponsored by Wawa and assisting in the distribution of medals to runners as they cross the finish line. The overall goal of the assembly was to talk to students about the mission of the foundation, the important community role that law enforcement officers play in keeping everyone safe, to increase participation in the run/walk, and that the last mile will honor all fallen officers, including Towne 2009 graduate Christopher Fitzgerald.
The Market Street Run for Blue is a 5-mile run or walk on Sunday, Oct. 15.
